Michel T. Desroches

Over many years and different kinds of artistic practice and training, Michel T. Desroches has gradually developed an aesthetic project that goes back and forth between representation and abstraction and demonstrates both a mastery of academic renderings and the use of spontaneous gestures. His current work, created on canvas or wood using graphite and acrylic paint, is marked by black strokes and constructed from multiple superimpositions and back-and-forth gestures. These pieces are situated between the processes of constructing and deconstructing images.

Zones of emotional interpretation, faces, figures, and silhouettes of faces are the artist’s main subjects. Fragmented or splintered, these appear and disappear in his compositions between motifs, textures, combinations of luminosity, and colour vibrations to suggest an inexhaustible number of possibilities. For Desroches, the task is thus to construct and order fragments and elements to co-exist in equilibrium within a whole. The result is an art stamped with energy, spontaneity, and humanity, through which Michel T. Desroches conveys and expresses himself.
